Highways Agency jobs… driving your career

As an Agency, we aim to be the best roads operator there is. But this presents a challenge in itself. We have to work with the existing network and tight annual budgets to manage our roads and keep them operational.
This means lots of work to plan our ongoing network improvements and investments to maximise the benefits to road users whilst minimising disruption to journeys. Our staff are vital to this.
We manage 4,500 miles of motorway and A roads in England. This road network, we call it the Strategic Road Network, forms the arteries of our nation. Our network is used by millions of motorists every day – and every single one relies on our roads to get to work, run their business, or travel around the country.
Seen us on the television? Want more information on Highways Agency jobs?
The documentary ‘The Motorway: Life in the Fast Lane’, currently showing on Tuesdays on BBC2, features Highways Agency on-road staff, including traffic officers, team managers and regional control centre operators.
Our YouTube channel features a video with more about traffic officer jobs and about the role of the regional control centre. You can also read day in the life features for traffic officers, team managers and control room managers through the menu below.
But Highways Agency careers aren’t just limited to the roadside. We also look to find the best talent for a range of roles, including traffic technologists and analysts, project managers, contract managers, performance analysts, statisticians, engineers and more.
The sheer scale of our work means we operate in different business areas; these include Strategy and Planning, Commercial and Procurement, Network Services, Major Projects, Finance and Business Services Directorate, Traffic Management Directorate and the Network Delivery and Development Directorate.
