Fulfilling Our Equality Duties

As a public authority, we have a duty to promote equality and eliminate discrimination in the work we do.  To meet this duty we have produced action plans for race, disability and gender (including gender identity). We publish annual equality monitoring reports which are used to shape future practice. We carry out equality impact assessments on all relevant new policies and have a programme of assessments for existing relevant policies.

Equality Impact Assessments must be carried out for all new relevant policies to ensure that the needs of different customer groups are proactively considered and that equal outcomes can be achieved wherever possible. All existing policies that are relevant to our equality duties must also be impact assessed. These have been prioritised and we are gradually working through the programme.
