Data Protection Act
Data Protection Act 1998
The Highways Act is bound by the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998. Our policy is that personal information about you will:
- Not be used for any purpose other than that specified on collection;
- Be held in a secure manner;
- Be maintained accurately and be up-to-date;
- Only be accessible to those in the Agency with the need to see and process it (or similar); and
- Be destroyed when that purpose is complete.

In April 2011 the Information Commissioner's Office undertook a consensual audit of the Highways Agency's practices relating to the processing of personal data. A copy of the full report can be obtained below

Requesting information
Any individual may request copies of any personal records the Agency holds about them. The Agency will respond within 40 days.
