Headline traffic information via RSS

RSS from the National Traffic Control Centre

What is RSS?

You can now get the latest traffic conditions delivered directly to you. This is made possible by RSS - short for Really Simple Syndication. RSS can provide headline information or content summaries together with links to the full web content. It is really quick and easy to do. To view this information you need an RSS reader, of which there are many freely available on the web. Microsoft Internet Explorer v7 comes with one built in.

Depending on the RSS reader, you can view the information from a scrolling desktop news ticker, pop-up balloons or a dedicated news reading application.

What information is available?

The National Traffic Control Centre provides headline traffic alerts via RSS for motorways and major A-roads in England for FREE. The following RSS traffic alerts/feeds are available:

  • Current incidents across England
  • By region: North East, North West, South East, South West, East and West Midland regions in England
  • By road: M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M25, M62 and A1(M).

You can also create a customised RSS traffic information feed using our Atlas Pro service for professional users. Please see the Atlas Pro section for more details.

How can this help you?

No need to search for traffic information; RSS provides instant headline alerts on incidents, emergency roadworks and abnormal congestion.

Who can benefit?

  • Large organisations
  • Entertainment/sports venues
  • Retail and shopping centres
  • Hotels
  • Transport facilities (e.g.airports, train stations, coach stations)
  • All road users (e.g. everyday commuters, holiday/business travellers)

Example applications

  • Broadcast traffic headlines on customer information displays
  • Employees receive headline information to their desktop
