Atlas Pro: Traffic information for professionals
Heavy-duty detailed traffic information
What is Atlas Pro?
Atlas Pro is a web service that provides registered users with enhanced traffic information on England’s motorways and major A-roads. This information is brought to you directly from the National Traffic Control Centre whose operators collect and analyse data from thousands of roadside traffic sensors and over 250 partner organisations.
What information is available?
The information available through Atlas Pro is text-based and more detailed than services available to the public. You can view, for example, traffic speeds, live electronic roadside messages and unconfirmed incidents for early warning.
A number of features have been recently added to Atlas Professional in order to help our operational partners make the most of information from the Highways Agency.
These features include:
- "My Areas" - Atlas Professional now provides the ability for you to define the areas of the country in which you are interested and view information within that area. This feature also enables you to create a customised RSS traffic information feed, thus providing headlines alerts for specific roads defined in “My Areas”.1
- City Timegrid - A high-level overview of the current state of the network shown as current travel times between major destinations. In the coming months, new destinations will be added to the fourteen existing choices in the City Timegrid. We need your help in selecting these new destinations, which may be major cities, event venues or transport interchanges such as airports or ferry ports. Please submit your suggestion on the Atlas Pro web site.
- Severity - Users can sort traffic events in descending order of the level of disruption that they are causing or will cause on the network.
- Unconfirmed incidents - Unlike Traffic England, which only publishes confirmed events, Atlas Pro will provide you with early incident warnings.
- Keep me logged in - When checked, keeps you signed in on this computer for up to a week or until you log out.
How can this help you?
It is a service tailored to professional users providing you with simple search facilities (e.g. search by county), view last reported incident at top of tabulated incident list and easy-to-read live roadside message signs. Atlas Pro also provides a commenting facility, which allows the user to provide feedback on posted incidents to various Atlas user groups (e.g. NTCC control room, media, emergency response).
Who can benefit?
- Media organisations
- Local Transport Authorities
- Major traffic generators (e.g.entertainment/sports venues, transport facilities)
- Logistics departments and organisations
