National Vehicle Recovery Project - Update
August 2007
Introduction
In April 2007 the Bulletin contained an article on the National Vehicle Recovery Project. Since then the project has moved on and has recently passed a significant milestone. This article will give a brief overview of what is happening but for the full information visit the project’s webpage.
So what’s new?
The Highways Agency has moved a step forward in the procurement for the role of National Vehicle Recovery Manager (NVRM). The NVRM will be responsible for providing the National Vehicle Recovery Service that will comprise a range of vehicle recovery and associated management services. This is an important move towards helping the Traffic Officer Service keep traffic moving safely.
The NVRM long list (tender participants) is listed below in alphabetical order:
- AA
- FMG Support Ltd
- Mondial Assistance (UK) Limited
- NCP Services Limited
- RAC Motoring Services
If you have any information or suggestions that you feel would be helpful to the National Vehicle Recovery Project, please email the project team.
Finally, the TIM Programme has produced a Recovery aide-memoir (900 KB PDF) for the Traffic Officer Service but it could be useful to others. The aim of the document is to help the Traffic Officers on scene dealing with difficult recovery operations gather information. Passing the correct information could help the Police Recovery Agents or the customer's motoring organisation to bring the right equipment first time. This may significantly speed up the recovery operation.
