Highways Agency visual identity specifications and writing guide
The Highways Agency is a large and diverse organisation, responsible for a range of service including road schemes, information services and our traffic officers which help us deliver safe roads, reliable journeys and keep travellers informed.
Each week the Agency communicates - both directly and through our contractors - with millions of road users and stakeholders, so it is important that everyone working for or on behalf of the Agency follows a clear and consistent approach in presenting both written communication and the Highways Agency visual identity.
Everyone working for, or on behalf of, the Agency has a responsibility to communicate clearly. To help, the Agency has produced two documents
- The Highways Agency's visual identity specifications: what you need to know
This sets out how we use our visual identity. It covers the use of the Highways Agency's logo on documents and online publications, through to works access signs and traffic officer vehicles. We also detail how supply chain contractors and official partner organisations can use their own corporate logos in conjunction with the Agency's own. - Writing with style: the Highways Agency's tone of voice and style guide
This guide covers all formal writing undertaken on behalf of the Highways Agency. It covers the use of everyday active language, capitalisation, acronyms and abbreviations, as well as detailed specifications for writing things such as dates, times, numbers and bulleted lists.
Both documents are designed as easy to use reference tools to help present a more consistent, professional image and ensure communication is as clear as possible. In this way, the Agency looks to avoid confusion and misunderstanding about who it is, what it does, and why it does it.
