FAQs

Supply Chain Management - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should we complete self-scores/next steps submissions for all indicators or just those which have changed since CAT round 1?

A: Please complete self-score/next step submissions for all indicators. It is logical that validators should concentrate on changed indicators but, because of the nature of the validation exercise and the fact that the indicators are interlinked, they could not actively exclude unchanged indicators.

Furthermore, validators will be looking for examples of best practice in order to fuel the development of the CAT tool before round 3. Best practice is most likely to exist in unchanged areas where capability level 4s already exist. In addition, we should not lose sight of the fact that performance may have slipped.

Fundamentally, the CAT is a business development tool which prompts an annual look at your performance against what the industry agrees to be best practice and captures your development plans which form the basis of the next round of assessments. If you choose to opt in, you will need to complete self-scores/next steps submissions for all indicators.

Q: Is there a PDF version of the CAT Supplier Handbook?

A: No, the CAT is entirely electronic this year, but the website has a printable version.

Q: Does the 4200 character limit include both self-score and next steps submissions?

A: Yes.

Q: Who do we contact to arrange our validation date?

A: Our CAT Programme Manager is David Armstrong. david.armstrong@highways.gsi.gov.uk
