Information Strategy 2006
Our Information Strategy
We are committed to provide our customers with reliable, useful and effective information. This service is at the centre of everything we do, and will be essential to our delivery of key objectives on congestion reduction and journey time reliability.
Delivering top quality information to our customers requires effective management of information by the Highways Agency and its delivery partners. The Highways Agency's Information Strategy will govern the delivery of information services to meet our immediate needs and future objectives.
Aims
- The Information Strategy will deliver trusted, reliable, useful and effective information to all our customers.
- Information will be correct and complete and will help our customers get best use from our network.
- We will develop a framework of flexible, effective and integrated information solutions around recognised principles of best practice.
- We will keep our customers well informed of how we aim to meet their needs.
Single Programme for Information Services
The Strategy will bring all of the Highway Agency's information initiatives into a single long term programme of work, grouped into three areas -
Influencing our customers - Giving road users the information they need to plan their journeys effectively.
Making best use of our information asset - Helping our staff and partners exploit the information we hold to the full. Making sure that our information asset is effectively managed to consistent standards, avoiding duplication of effort and data.
Delivering Effective Information Systems and Services - Ensuring that our staff and partners have the services to perform their roles, now and in the future.
This means bringing similar methods of planning and control to information services as those we already use in our programmes of road maintenance and improvement. The merits of information projects will be clearly identified before they enter the programme, and then consistently monitored to delivery. A series of 'Route Maps', spanning the scope of the strategy, will help the Highways Agency identify and bridge the gaps between its current services and future aspirations. Projects will be regularly reappraised according to the changing needs of our customers.
Benefits
A single programme of information projects is essential to delivering a co-ordinated information strategy and making best use of our information asset. It will give our staff and delivery partners the tools they need to do their job and the most efficient means of access to information held by the Highways Agency.
