Vehicle Checks and Emergency Kits

Before setting out on a long journey there are a few checks that you should carry out on your vehicle.

Taking a few minutes before setting out could save you hours of delay by avoiding a break down.

It could also help prevent a hold-up for all those motorists who might get stuck behind you.

But if you do break down, or are held up, carrying an emergency kit could help keep you safe.

What to check:
  • Fuel
  • Oil
  • Anti-freeze and screen wash levels
  • Worn wiper blades
  • Battery
  • Light Bulbs
  • Tyre pressure
  • Depth of tyre tread.
What to carry with you
Your emergency kit should contain:
  • Map
  • Battery jump leads
  • Torch
  • First aid kit
  • Food and water
  • Warm clothes
  • Ice scraper
During severe weather you should also carry:
  • Shovel
  • Pair of boots
  • Blanket
  • Medication that you might need
