How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying for a job with the Highways Agency. Like all government bodies, the HA recruits people through a defined process.

Everybody who applies for and completes one of our applications will undergo the same types of screening and assessment. This way we can be sure that the recruitment process is fair, objective and open to all candidates.

In order for us to make a fair and balanced assessment of your skills, we require you to complete a CV no more than three pages long in Word format, a short application form and a diversity questionnaire.

We are not including competency questions in this application form but please bear the job description and competencies in mind when completing your CV.

The CV and the short application form are compulsory and allow us to assess the skills and experience of those who apply. Please only use the short application form below to apply and not the longer version that can be found elsewhere on this web site.

If you wish to apply for more than one role at the same pay band you can use the same application form noting clearly the VV numbers and job titles in the box provided. Please note that applications may be considered across the range of posts which have been advertised in this campaign.

The diversity questionnaire is not compulsory, but this information allows us to monitor where our candidates are coming from in the community, and to learn if we are meeting our policy targets. The information you supply here is not used to assess you - only the information you supply in the application form and CV will be used to assess you.

When you return your completed CV and short application form, we will acknowledge receipt of it within 2 working days. If you have applied by the website, you will receive an email confirming receipt.

If you return your application by post, we will confirm receipt by mail. If you return your application by email, you will receive an email from us to confirm receipt. After sending you acknowledgement correspondence, we will then assess your CV and short application form.

We will be assessing your CV based on your core skills, qualifications and experience for the post you have applied for. We will contact you after we have screened your CV and application to advise you as to how we wish to proceed with it.

If you have any queries about the recruitment process after reading this,  please call the Central Recruitment Team Leeds on 0113 283 4861.

Please ensure you have completed and returned the following documents by the closing date 31 March 2008:

  • CV
Note that due to age discrimination your CV should not include your age
  • Short Application Form
  • Diversity Monitoring Form

You can download the forms by going to Current Vacancies and clicking on the role you interested in. Please ensure you use the correct form as there are different application forms for different Agency jobs.
