M62 - Your Local History

A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Don't Cross or Walk Along Motorways

The Highways Agency aims to make more people aware of the dangers of walking or crossing our motorway. We have launched a poster and radio campaign aimed at 16-25yr olds. Hopefully with our hard hitting posters, our message will come across.

HGV Drivers

Information for drivers of heavy vehicles

Numbers of accidents involving Large and Heavy Goods Vehicles are far greater than we would like them to be. Although almost 8.3% of all casualties (on trunk roads in 2008) were truck drivers and occupants, the vehicles were involved in over 25% of all accidents (2004).

To tackle this, we have launched a Driver Information Programme titled "Heavy Good Vehicle".  The mascot for the programme, "Stick", who is based on cult 60's/70's TV hit "The Saint",  will encourage truckers to drive heavy "good" vehicles.

From a series of animated emails to truck backs, from messages in motorway service areas to posters at ports and from messages on ferries through to a highly targeted diesel fuel nozzle campaign covering the whole network.

All these help create an identifiable image with a simple message that is relevant to truckers and requires them to log on to our Heavy Good Vehicle micro-site.

This website holds a wealth of material useful for driver and operator including access to the Truckstop Guide, information for abnormal loads, journey planning tools, as well as safety tips and reminders.

It is a one-stop-shop for truckers and offers links to partners' sites and to other information useful for the truck driver and operator.

The site is available in four languages; English, French, German and Polish so as to help our foreign visitors.
