M62 - Your Local History
A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Don't Cross or Walk Along Motorways
The Highways Agency aims to make more people aware of the dangers of walking or crossing our motorway. We have launched a poster and radio campaign aimed at 16-25yr olds. Hopefully with our hard hitting posters, our message will come across.

Service Station Information Points
Do you want coffee with your travel information?
The Highways Agency has recently installed 28 Information Points in Welcome Break Motorway service stations and freight stops across England as part of a new trial service.
The Information Points provide travellers with real-time traffic and travel information. The Information Point has a direct feed from our National Traffic Control Centre. Refreshed every 5 minutes, the data is presented to customers as simple maps and text, making it highly visual and easy to understand.
After an intial successful one year pilot at Hopwood Park Services, M42, we have extended this trial and Information Points are now sited at points on the network where people will break their journey. We are continuing to collect your views to help us consider whether to propose this as a full service.
The eight foot tall unit incorporates a plasma screen above a touch screen, designed to capture the traveller's attention. As the Highways Agency gives more and more emphasis to driver education, reminding drivers to journey plan both before and during their journey, the Information Points are more important than ever.
The touch screen allows the user to access information such as events taking place along their route that may affect their journey. "This is a really exciting development which will add to our expanding range of services, designed to improve the journey of millions of travellers" said Paul Hynes, Project Sponsor for the Information Points.
The displays will also give the traveller the opportunity to give feedback so that the Information Points can constantly be improved and developed.
