Location of Information Points

Providing travellers with real-time traffic and travel information

Our first Information Points were installed at the Hopwood Park motorway service area on the 17th of March then at Birmingham International Airport on the 23rd of August 2005.

During a three month evaluation period over 10’000 people accessed the Hopwood Park Information Point, with nearly 40 people per hour using the display screen. In all, almost 900 people provided feedback during the evaluation period; the vast majority praising the Information Points for their ability to deliver real-time traffic information at the point of use.

The evaluation exercise indicated that there is real public interest in this source of information, and it was recommended to go ahead with the second phase and install Information Points at a number of Welcome Break motorway service stations and freight stops throughout England.

Although the project is still in a research phase we have been able to substantiate early findings that the Information Points provide a visible and tangible demonstration of our commitment to providing accurate network information. In addition they will also provide us with a platform from which we can test new information initiatives in order to further inform and influence travel behaviour.

You will see our Information Points at a number of Welcome Break service stations and freight stops throughout England. Their location is listed below.
