Think Ahead Move Ahead

We all want easy, free-flowing journeys. However, with increasing amounts of traffic on our roads, it is not simply just about the time spent in your car travelling, it is also about the time you invest in planning your journey. We have an important role to play in helping you do this by providing you with an increasing number of different ways you can access the most up-to-date traffic information about our motorways and major ‘A’ roads.

Over 300,000 people now visit our Traffic England website every month to plan their journeys and we have now introduced a 24/7 digital radio station to provide you with continuous traffic information. We now even have travel and delay times on our roadside variable message signs, so you can find out if there is a delay and and it provides you with a realistic idea of how long your journey will take. By utilising services such as these, you can use the information we provide when and how it suits you, giving you all you need to take control of your journeys. A well planned journey will be safer and will minimise your impact on the environment.

You’ll find details of all these services and more on these pages. I hope they give you some new ideas on ways in which you can plan your journeys and make best use of our roads and public transport network. One of the best ways you can do this is by using innovative services such as the Transport Direct website.

We’d welcome your feedback about this information or any other aspect of our services. Please contact our information line on 08457 50 40 30 and let us know what you think.

The information on these pages is also available in booklet form which is available for download:
