Heavy Good Vehicle
In 2009, 174 HGV occupants were casualties on our network (9% of all casualties) but HGVs were involved in 563 casualties (29% of all casualties).
When HGVs are involved, the collisions tend to be major events that shut, or restrict, the motorway due to the size and impact of the vehicles and the frequent diesel and debris spills that come with them.
The Agency can offer various tools to help our colleagues across industry to help us reduce these incidents:
- "Stick" animations (yellow box below) - A series of mini clips (in various languages) to start that conversation about a variety of road safety topics.
- ESDAL - guidance for abnormal loads
- Truckstops guide - where to stop safely on the network
Please visit the Business Link website for more information for HGV drivers and logistics planners and for those driving on business.
