M62 - Your Local History
A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Don't Cross or Walk Along Motorways
The Highways Agency aims to make more people aware of the dangers of walking or crossing our motorway. We have launched a poster and radio campaign aimed at 16-25yr olds. Hopefully with our hard hitting posters, our message will come across.

The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) works to reduce road casualties across Sussex through education, engineering and enforcement. Each year, the Partnership develops strategies in these three key disciplines to create safer roads and safer communities by sharing the responsibility between all of the partners - including members of the public who are the county's greatest asset in the development of safer roads and reducing road casualties.
The SSRP is funded by Government grant to three local authorities; East and West Sussex County Councils and Brighton and Hove City Council. The other partners are Sussex Police, the Fire and Rescue Services, the Highways Agency and HM Courts' Service.
Education of all road users is a significant priority for the SSRP. Many collisions can be avoided by providing appropriate education to the different road user groups, encouraging them, for example, to take regular rest breaks on long journeys, to be visible on dark nights or to be aware of the consequences that could arise from excess speed.
There are also occasions when the road environment contributes to serious collisions. The SSRP's Engineering and Enforcement group works to identify these areas and develop, or redevelop, stretches of road as appropriate to minimise the risk to all road users.
Of course, speed is still one of the key factors in collisions throughout Sussex. The Partnership's fixed, mobile and red traffic light cameras help to enforce the law on the roads, lower speeds in key areas and change drivers' behaviour to take account of the local road environment.
The Partnership supports Operation Crackdown - http://www.operationcrackdown.org/ - a dedicated service focusing on all aspects of anti-social driving. You can report any instance of anti-social driving through the dedicated website or by telephone: 01243 642222. Your report will be analysed by Sussex Police and any necessary action will be taken to help make your community a safer place.

Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership
In 2001, 1,174 people were killed or seriously injured on roads in Kent and Medway. Excessive or inappropriate speed was a contributory factor in approximately a third of those crashes.
To combat this, the Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership was formed in July 2002. The Partnership is working to reduce death and serious injuries on Kent and Medway's roads by deterring drivers from speeding through the use of speed cameras, particularly at places where there has been a history of injury crashes.
