M62 - Your Local History
A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Young Pedestrians
The Right Way or No Way
Introduction
THE RIGHT WAY OR NO WAY is for use with young pedestrians who are making, or who have made, the transition from primary
to secondary school.
It can be during this time that young pedestrians are faced with new routes to school, new friends, pressure from peers and increased independence away from parental guidance. Throw in MP3 players and mobile phones, which can lead to distractions, and the potential for incidents can be greatly increased.
This resource emphasises that staying safe when out and about as a young pedestrian is simply a matter of making smart, practical and stigma-free decisions.
The Films
Please take a moment to watch each of the seven short films that make up the Right Way or No Way DVD (you need to be able to view videos hosted on You Tube).
You can also view the Right Way or No Way Flash micro-site.
Extra Facts
Here are some differences between motorways and dual/single carriageways:
- Learners, pedestrians, agricultural vehicles, motorcycles under 50cc or motorscooters are not allowed on the motorway. Any vehicles (there may be some restrictions on some roads) are permitted on dual and single carriageway roads.
- There are blue signs on motorways. They are green or white on dual carriageways.
- Motorways have hard shoulders. Dual/single carriageways have laybys.
- Motorways and dual carriageways have a central reservation down the middle dividing two directions of travel. Single carriageways have no barrier.
Additional points to note:
- Dual carriageways can have 3+ lanes as a motorway.
- Dual carriageways may have turning points and junctions (right turn across traffic or sharp left turns) though many are being phased out as they are often hazardous.
