M62 - Your Local History
A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Keep Left
Keep left unless overtaking
This is a popular message because it echoes the thoughts of many drivers. It reflects their irritation with those who avoid the left hand lane. Normally lane one has the least amount of traffic. However, when we have displayed Variable Message Sigs (VMS) messages in the past with these words, the use of lane one has increased.
Lane hoggers can lose us up to 1470 miles of available road at any one time (one third of the 4410 miles of motorway and trunk roads in England) - the equivalent of Aberdeen to Penzance and back!
What's more, it frustrates fellow drivers, which can cause them to drive dangerously as a result.
The Highway Code states: "You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past." However don't keep changing lanes, as this is even more dangerous.
