EuroRAP 2007 - Letter in Response to The Times

To The Times
Letters Editor: letters@thetimes.co.uk
LETTER FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

Dear Editor,

The Institute for Advanced Motoring (IAM) Trust, EuroRAP and the Highways Agency would like to confirm that it was wrong to report in The Times (Monday 3 December, page 4) that the Highways Agency asked for information to be withheld in relation to the publication of the 'Star rating roads for safety: UK trials 2006-07' EuroRAP report, published on Monday 3 December.

The IAM Trust and EuroRAP have released all of the information that is currently available, including the UK Road Protection Score maps which show the locations of the one, two, three and four star sections of road.

The Highways Agency has supported this programme of road safety assessment, being carried out by EuroRAP and the IAM Trust.

Only a third of the Agency's network of England's motorways and major A roads was analysed as part of this initial research - and there is more data analysis still to do.

The remainder of the Agency's network is currently being assessed, and this is expected to be completed during 2008-09 and then the information will be published.

Yours sincerely,

John Dawson, EuroRAP
Neil Greig, IAM Trust
David Gingell, Highways Agency
