Traffic Management on the A2 near Boughton, Kent

Highways Agency statement on Traffic Management on the A2 near Boughton, Kent - 4th April 2008

In January 2007, a 50mph speed restriction was put in place on the A2 near Boughton in Kent for the ongoing safety of drivers after a safety barrier was hit.

Safety tests on the embankment behind the damaged barrier identified that landslips could occur. This prevented immediate repair so a secondary safety barrier was installed. This second barrier encroached into one lane of the A2, and for this reason two narrower lanes and a 50mph speed restriction were put in place for the safety of road users. The work is due to be completed by 11 April, weather permitting, when the speed restriction will be lifted.

The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order for a 50mph speed limit expired on 11 February 2007 and after this time the speed limit was advisory and not mandatory: this was agreed verbally with the Police. The Highways Agency regrets that the signs were not changed to reflect this, however, we assure you that no one has been prosecuted for speeding through the section with the reduced speed limit.

From the 10 March 2008 a new Temporary Traffic Regulation Order has been in place with a mandatory 50mph speed limit until the work is completed.
