The Met Office provides comprehensive weather forecasts as it affects England's motorways and major roads on behalf of the Highways Agency.
Thursday Evening and Night :
Rain, already across the west will spill to all areas through this evening, though becoming generally light in nature as it does. For the south, particularly near the coast it will remain overcast with some fog about. Further north there will be some clear periods in the strong west to southwesterly wind. Gusts 40 mph are likely anywhere M62 northwards, locally 50 mph is possible, this more likely for Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria. The wind across the A1 and M6 overnight could cause some problems locally.
Friday:
It may well remain rather cloudy in the far south with coastal fog patches. Elsewhere a dry morning with some brighter spells. The strong wind in the far north gradually easing through the morning. The next spell of wet and windy weather will reach Cornwall in the afternoon and spread into the Midlands and southeast by dusk. Then the rest of the network through the evening..
