Improvement and monitoring work on M54 J6 Telford Shropshire

HIGHWAYS AGENCY News Release (1787) issued by the Government News Network on 17 May 2005

Safety monitoring and improvement work on the westbound carriageway of the M54 motorway in Shropshire will start on Friday 20 May.

During the work, improvements will be made to the white lining and the road studs on the carriageway to ensure the continued safety of motorists. The carriageway surface will also be examined to ensure that meets strict safety standards.

Work on a 2 mile (3.3 km) section of the westbound carriageway between Junction 5 and 6 will start after 9:00pm on Friday 20 May and take five nights to complete.

During the work the M54 will be closed overnight (9:00pm to 6:00am) between junctions 5 and 6. Traffic travelling westbound will exit the motorway at junction 5, follow the diversion route via the B5072 and then join the A5223 to return to the motorway at junction 6.

Dennis Wheeler, Highways Agency project manager said:

"This improvement and monitoring work is essential to ensure continued safety of this stretch of the M54.

"Work will take place overnight in order to minimise disruption to drivers. Motorists are advised to allow extra time or vary their journeys if possible."
