M6

The M6, also known as the back­bone of Britain, is a north-south motor­way link­ing Rugby at J19 of the M1 to Carlisle  where the motor­way ends at the A74(M).

At 257.5 miles it holds the title of England’s longest motor­way and at Pre­ston it includes the first sec­tion of motor­way in the coun­try - the Pre­ston Bypass opened on 5 Decem­ber 1958 by the then Prime Min­is­ter Harold Macmillan.

The M6 southbound entry slip at junction J11 will be closed , due to roadworks, between 9:30 pm and 6 am, from 30 March 2015 to 3 April 2015.
