Roads Opened in 2007

In Major Projects we continued to improve the Strategic Road Network this year. Working with our partners as part of the Programme of Major Schemes (formerly Targeted Programme of Improvements) seven schemes were opened to traffic in 2007.

A419 Commonhead Junction 

A new dual carriageway overpass taking traffic over the A419 at a junction where previously heavy congestion resulted in several serious accidents.

A11 Attleborough Bypass

Opened ahead of schedule demonstrating our efficient project management. Improving journey times and increasing accessibility to the remoter areas of East Anglia.

M40 / A404 Handy Cross Junction Improvement

A new link road at the junction, a new slip road and the widening of existing slip roads has reduced congestion and improved traffic safety.

A428 Caxton Common to Hardwick Improvement

An improved dual carriageway creating better links between Bedford and Cambridge. Contributing to the regional strategy for regeneration by providing transport and capacity to cope with the increase in numbers if visitors.

A30 Bodmin Indian Queens

The UK's largest "green" road project, with around 800,000 tonnes of recycled waste material used to construct the dual carriageway, new junctions and side roads.

A66 Greta Bridge to Stephen Bank Improvement and A66 Carkin Moor to Scotch Corner Improvement

Improving road safety and journey time reliability by upgrading dual carriageway and providing efficient space for future maintenance so that traffic disruption can be minimised.

A66 Temple Sowerby Bypass

Reducing traffic through the village of Temple Sowerby by 95 per cent  and removing noise, congestion and pollution from the village. The bypass will also make journeys on the A66 across the Pennines safer and more reliable for long-distance traffic.
