A2/A282 Dartford Improvement
Work started on 2 September 2006 on a £120m major improvement scheme to reduce congestion and improve journey time reliability on the A2/A282 at Dartford.

M25 Junction 28/A12 Brook Street Junction Improvement
The M25 Junction 28 / A12 / Brook Street Interchange carries very high volumes of traffic particularly during peak periods. The scheme will improve journey time reliability and safety through the junction.

A590 High and Low Newton Bypass
The existing A590 through High and Low Newton is a very busy route carrying up to 14,000 vehicles per day, including 2,000 heavy goods vehicles. The road is substandard in terms of alignment, visibility, width and safe overtaking opportunities. The bypass will bring significant benefits to the communities of High Newton, Low Newton and Ayside by removing over 90% of traffic and reducing accidents.

A27 Southerham to Beddingham Improvement
The level crossing at Beddingham is a well known congestion point on the A27. To make the crossing safer and to cater more effectively for traffic using the route, a new bridge is being constructed over the railway line and the existing single carriageway road is being improved.

A14 Haughley New Street - Stowmarket Improvement
The A14 Trunk Road, is a route of national importance, connecting the east coast ports of Felixstowe and Harwich with the Midlands and the North. The current road and the locations of the junctions with local roads mean that the visibility along this existing section of the A14 is poor and it has a poor safety record. The scheme, being built, is approx 4km in length. The new road would start at Haughley New Street and take a route just to the south of the existing A14.

M25 J1b-3 Widening (Section 3)
The M25 is one of the busiest routes in England, the upgrades to this part of the motorway are vital in tackling congestion and improving the journey time and reliability to the road user.

A66 Long Newton Junction
The A66 between Stockton on Tees and Darlington is a two lane dual carriageway carrying approximately 32,000 vehicles each day. Existing junctions at Long Newton and Elton have a poor safety record. This scheme will improve safety by closing gaps in the central reservation and creating a new roundabout and link road.

A38 Dobwalls Bypass
The A38 Trunk Road links mid-Cornwall to Plymouth and is one of only two trunk road routes to Cornwall. The traffic levels experienced on the A38 causes congestion and has a serious adverse effect on the village environment, causing community severance and noise pollution. The bypass will reduce traffic through the village by about 90% improving safety and reducing journey times.

A595 Parton - Lillyhall Improvement
The A595 between Parton and Lillyhall is an important part of the trunk road network connecting West Cumbria and the towns of Whitehaven and Workington with the M6 motorway at Penrith via the A66.
The existing road carries more than 17,000 vehicles a day, and passes through several local communities. The current road is narrow and winding with a high number of junctions and is heavily congested. The new route will reduce traffic in the village, improve journey times for travelers and improve the local environment.

A5117/A550 Deeside Park Junctions Improvement
This scheme involves improvements to the A550/A5117 between Deeside Park and the M56 Junction 16, at present the dual carriageway of approximately five kilometres in length is experiencing heavy congestion and delays for road users at peak times. This scheme will significantly reduce congestion and delays along the route as well improving safety and providing improved facilities for walkers cyclists and horse riders.

A69 Haydon Bridge Bypass
The existing A69 Trunk Road passes through the centre of Haydon Bridge. The high numbers of cars and heavy goods vehicles passing through the community every day cause congestion, poor air quality and traffic noise. To alleviate these problems we are building a new 2.9km single carriageway bypass around the southern side of the village. This will take the traffic away from the village, improving the local environment and reducing traffic and congestion.

M27 J11-J12 Climbing Lanes
This section of the M27 carries approximately 110,000 vehicles per day and experiences congestion due to the gradients associated with the crest of hill approximately half way between the two junctions.
This scheme will bring reduced congestion, provide quicker and more reliable journey times, and improved safety. The scheme is to be built entirely within existing highway limits minimising the impact on the environment and surrounding communities, and will bring real benefits to traffic.

M62 Junction 6 Improvement
This scheme will improve the busy junction 6 of the M62 by adding two direct connections, one from the M57 southbound to the M62 eastbound and the other from M62 westbound to the M57 northbound. This traffic will no longer need to use the present junction roundabout, thus reducing congestion and delays significantly and improving road safety.

A1 Peterborough - Blyth Grade Seperated Junction
The A1 Trunk Road is a north-south regional route of major importance connecting the two sections of the A1(M) at Peterborough in the south and Blyth in the north. Most of this length is of a satisfactory standard but there are localised problems at six roundabouts.
We are to replace six single level roundabouts with grade separated junctions to reduce congestion, queuing and delays in these areas and to improve a poor safety record.

M1 Junction 6a to 10 Widening
Works to widen the M1, reducing congestion and improving both safety and journey time reliability, started in mid March 2006 and are expected to be completed by December 2008.
The M1 is one of the busiest motorways in Britain and is a major link between London, the Midlands and the North. The section between Junctions 6A and 10 is approximately 10 miles (17 km) long, stretching from the M25 through to Luton, and carries an average of 160,000 vehicles. The project will reduce delays experienced and increase journey times for travellers.

A2 Bean - Cobham Phase 2 Pepperhill - Cobham
We are to widening the A2 to four lanes with hard shoulders in each direction between Pepperhill and Cobham junctions. The widening scheme is the second phase of the overall A2 Bean to Cobham scheme.

M6 Carlisle to Guardsmill Extension
The A74 between Carlisle to Guards Mill is the last "missing link" in the motorway network between London and Glasgow. This dual carriageway section of trunk road has several minor road junctions and therefore mixes relatively low-speed local traffic with high-speed trunk road traffic. It has a poor accident record and causes driver frustration, resulting from heavy goods vehicles using the outside lane of each carriageway. The upgrade of this section to motorway standard will bring a improvement in safety and a reduction in journey times for the road user.

A419 Blunsdon Bypass
The A419 trunk road is a major route linking the M4 and M5 motorways and links Swindon to the trunk and motorway network. Most of the route is already improved, but at Blunsdon the A419 is one of the remaining bottlenecks on an otherwise high standard trunk road route and is subject to a 50mph speed limit. Traffic congestion occurs at Turnpike Roundabout and at the junction with Lady Lane with long delays, particularly at peak times, causing driver frustration and traffic accidents. The A419 in Blunsdon is difficult to cross for pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and vehicles. The quality of the environment near the trunk road is poor due to high volumes of vehicles, high noise levels and associated uses of facilities at Turnpike. This project will improve journey times and improve safety. The bypass will also move the traffic further away from Blunsden and therefore reducing the effect of the road on the local people.
