M25 J2-3 Controlled Motorway

Introduction

Plans to roll out a scheme to improve road safety and help reduce congestion through variable speed limits on the M25 junction 2 to 3 were recently announced.

The Controlled Motorway Scheme will be implemented on both carriageways of the motorway and is expected to accrue the following benefits:-

  • Reduction in the impact and frequency of accidents / incidents;
  • Allowing faster response to incidents and reduce clear-up times;
  • Reduction in congestion at recognised bottlenecks;
  • Achieve best use of the existing road space; and
  • Provide faster and more reliable journey times.

The Controlled Motorway Scheme will greatly benefit drivers on this section of the motorway by helping to reduce congestion and make drivers' journeys safer and more reliable by smoothing traffic flows.

The consultation process commences on 5 May 2009 and will last for 12 weeks until 28 July 2009.

Members of the public, stakeholder groups, representative organisations and businesses affected by these proposals are asked to make contact with us to express their views.  Comments are to be sent in writing to the address provided in the Consultation Pack.
