The Project
A major scheme to reconstruct and resurface 3 miles of the A428 between the start of the dual carriageway at Hardwick and the Girton Interchange at Cambridge starts on Tuesday 18 April 2006 and is expected to be completed by Friday 7 July 2006.
Both carriageways have come to the end of their useful working life and they will be resurfaced with a new low noise surfacing material. At the same time, the slip roads to the A1303 and the eastbound slip road from the M11 will be resurfaced.
Traffic Management
The work will be carried out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A mandatory 40mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works and there will also be contraflows and diversions at times.
There will be occasional closures of the A1303 slip roads, the A14 westbound exit slip road and the M11/A14 eastbound entry slip road. During these times, clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.
These works have been planned to be carried out in the shortest practicable time and designed to keep disruption to a minimum. However, they are expected to cause severe delays at times and motorists should allow extra time for their journeys or seek alternative routes wherever possible.
