The Project
This combined safety and road improvement scheme, comprising of the re-surfacing of all three lanes on both the north and south bound carriageways of the M5 to include the hard shoulder, began on 18 April 2006 and was completed on 7 July 2006.
The project also involved the installation of safety barriers on the verges and the installation of concrete barrier to the central reserve, including necessary drainage repairs.
The travelling public will experience a quieter road surface and the upgraded central reserve barrier will prevent cross-over accidents, improving safety on this stretch of carriageway.
The work affected approximately 2 miles (3.4 k) of road between Taunton Deane Services and Wellington (Junction 26).
