The Project

Resurfacing work on the A38 approximately 2km West of Derby City Centre, started on Monday 22 May 2006 and was completed on 25 May 2006.

The work was carried out on three consecutive evenings, starting at 2100 and working through the night untill 0600 and was completed at 0600 on Thursday 25 May.

The work carried was as follows:

  • Resurfacing lane one of the A38 to overcome rutting and other road surface defects;
  • Resurfacing other sections of the roundabout to improve skid resistants;
  • Laying an additional 150m of high friction surfacing (there is already 100m) on the A38's northbound approach to the traffic signals at Kingsway roundabout , which were installed early in 2005.

The length of road affected was 1.2 km/three-quarters of a mile, from 250m south of Kingsway Roundabout to 90m south of Markeaton Island.
