Roadworks will be in place from 1 mile south of M6 J6 (Gravelly Hill) to 1 mile south of M6 J7 (Great Barr).
The overall length of Traffic Management will be 5 miles.

Traffic Management

Three narrow lanes will be maintained at peak times in both directions using contra-flow and hard shoulders. There will be additional lane closures although these will be overnight when traffic flows are lower.

Duration

The works will commence on 18 June 2001 and continue for 18 months.

The work is necessary to replace worn out carriageway and to carry out maintenance and strengthening to the 30 year old structures.

Description of Works

Reconstruction and replacement of surfacing, bridge deck repairs and waterproofing, refurbishment of safety fence, parapets and drainage, painting of gantries and strengthening of steel box girders under Gravelly Hill.

(NOTE : Strengthening work takes place under the motorway)

Mandatory Speed Limit

The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph during the works.

The speed limit will be enforced using digital speed cameras and police patrols.
