The Project
The Highways Agency is currently undertaking a study to identify options for providing additional capacity on the busy inter-urban section of the M6 between Junction 11A and Junction 19 through Staffordshire and Cheshire.
The length of M6 considered by the study commences at the M6 Toll Junction (J11A) in the south and extends to the A556 Junction (J19) in the north.

Study History
A detailed examination of the problems and issues affecting the M6 corridor between the West Midlands and North West conurbations was carried out by the West Midlands to North West Multi-Modal Study (MidMan). The 2002 MidMan study report identified a set of guiding objectives, developed scenarios and recommended a package of measures. To find out more please visit the 'Study History' page.
Options
The current M6 study work is considering in outline the cost, environmental impact and economic value of widening and hard shoulder running. It should be recognised that different lengths of the M6 may lend themselves to different "solutions" to take account of differing circumstances and pressures. What Happens Next
