The Strategy
Route wide Actions
The following actions are suggested along the whole length of the route, categorised in accordance with the five objective categories:
Safety
- Review provision of road signs and markings
- Review standard and frequency of lay-bys
- Investigate provision of rest areas e.g. parking facilities at service areas
- Investigate accidents related to private and field accesses
- Investigate accident cluster sites
- Provision of Emergency Telephones
Economy
- Investigate congestion due to slow moving HGVs and farm traffic/ abnormal loads along the single carriageway route
- Minimise delays due to Roadworks/ Breakdowns including collisions and incidents
- Develop and implement diversion strategies
Environment
- Lay low noise surfacing to reduce noise levels generated by traffic
- Incorporate archaeological issues and their influence on future improvement works
Integration
- Implement driver information system – congestion, alternative routes
- Investigate with others usage of Public Transport including park and ride sites
- Review with others the signage strategy to public transport and recreational facilities and for pedestrians and cyclists.
Accessibility
- Review pedestrian, equestrian and cyclist facilities across the route
- Consider provision for local cross movement traffic
- Review positioning and standards for bus-stop positions and access
