The Project

New solar-powered road studs which are more effective that traditional 'cats eyes' in lighting up the route on winding roads are being installed on the A21 near Bewl Water in Kent.

With ten times more visibility than traditional cats eyes - the new road studs are solar powered and do not need the light from drivers headlights to work. They light up the road ahead around the bends and are well suited to allow better visibility, particularly at night along this 1.7km stretch of road.

The studs are being installed during overnight resurfacing work on the A21 between Kilndown junction and the B2169 near Bewl Water, starting on Wednesday, 9 August 2006 and lasting for 11 weeks.
