About the Scheme
The improvement scheme included the following improvements to Junction 10:
A2070 Kennington Road
- Existing Kennington Road three lane approach to the roundabout extended by approximately 50m.
- Improved signalised junction where Kennington Road meets the roundabout.
- Provision of new combined cycle/footpath adjacent to A2070 Kennington Road and A20 Hythe Road.
A20 Hythe Road
- Improved signalised junction where A20 Hythe Road meets the roundabout.
- Provision of extra lane on approach to the roundabout. Road widened from two to three lanes over an approximate length of 40m.
- Improved pedestrian/cycle crossings provided.
A292 Hythe Road to Ashford
- Provision of new signalised junction between A292 Hythe Road and the M20 London bound on slip.
- A third traffic lane was added between the new signalised junction and the roundabout.
- A new 200 metre long retaining wall adjacent to the motorway to allow the third traffic lane to be added.
- Provision of new pedestrian crossing.
A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road
- Provision of extra lane on approach to the roundabout. Road widened from three to four lanes over an approximate length of 120 metres.
- Improved pedestrian/cycle crossings provided.
- Extension of environmental fencing from A292 Hythe Road.
M20 Junction 10 Roundabout
- Provision of extra lane on the roundabout.
- Strengthening to both sides of each of the existing bridges to provide a third traffic lane over both bridges.
- Construction of a new 60 metre long combined cycle / footpath bridge across the motorway between the existing bridges.
- Strengthening of the central reservation piers for both of the existing bridges.
- Replacement of all the bearings on both of the existing bridges.
General
- Services were diverted from existing bridges to the new combined cycle / footpath bridge.
- All ancillary lighting, drainage, landscaping, signing, road markings and fencing.
