Why does it need to be done?

The northbound carriageway of the A1(M) between junctions 1 and 2 is coming to the end of its serviceable life and need to be repaired. The work is necessary to prevent the carriageway from deteriorating and to ensure it stays in a safe condition for many years to come.

When does it start?

The works started 2 September 2006 and are expected to be completed by late November 2006.

How long will it take?

The works will take 2 months to complete.

How much will it cost?

The work is costing £4.2 million.

Who is doing the work?

The work is being carried out by Lafarge contracting.

Is the work going to be noisy?

There will be some noise although this will be kept to a minimum.

Will it disturb me at night?

No, the noise created by the work being carried out should be will be no greater than the current traffic noise on this stretch of carriageway.

What time is the work taking place?

The works will be carried out at 24 hours a day 7 days a week to make sure the project is completed in the shortest time possible.

How will it inconvenience me?

There may be delays to the travelling public caused by a reduction in the speed limit within the extents of the works.
