Objectors Alternatives and Minor Modifications

Objectors Alternatives to the Draft Scheme and Orders Published 31 March 2006

These objectors' alternatives are not the Highway's Agency's revised proposals.

OA 1.  Dishforth to Baldersby Local Access Road

This alternative provides a local road route from a proposed roundabout at the existing Dishforth north bound slip road, on the west side of the motorway. It passes to the west of the existing Rainton Services and forms a roundabout junction with the existing Rainton overbridge, continuing north the route follows the line of the motorway before aligning to the west to form a junction with the A61.

OA 2.  Dishforth Pond

This alternative transfers the location of the balancing pond from the west of the proposed motorway to the east. The pond is located between Dishforth interchange and the Rainton overbridge.

OA 3.  Bridleway Overbridge: Mask Lane and Silicar Lane

This alternative provides a bridleway bridge over the proposed motorway to link Mask Lane with Silicar Lane.

OA 4.  Near Ainderby Quernhow, the Provision of a New Link Road

This alternative provides a link from The Croft to Mask Lane running beside the eastern boundary of the proposed motorway.

OA 5.  Pond Location near Sinderby

This alternative moves the location of the balancing pond approximately 300m to the north east of the current position.

OA 6.  Sinderby Junction East Pond

This alternative moves the location of the balancing pond approximately 150m to the north west of the current position.

OA 7.  Provision of a Segregated Right Turn on the B6267 Near Butcher House Underbridge

This alternative provides for a segregated right turn lane for access to a commercial property.

OA 8.  NMU Overbridge at Cowfold

This alternative provides for a NMU overbridge of the proposed motorway at the location of the existing Cowfold highway bridge on Exelby Lane and would retain the stopped up section of Exelby Lane, to the east of the proposed motorway, as a bridleway.

OA 9.  Various Side Road Junction Alternatives at Leeming

Various alternatives are proposed to the side road layout adjacent to Motel Leeming, incorporating different junction arrangements between the proposed local access road (LAR) and the A684 Bedale Road. The alternatives are described below:

  • Alt. 1 A revised link from an enlarged roundabout on the LAR to a new roundabout on the A684.
  • Alt. 2 Enlarged roundabout on the LAR providing a direct access for the Motel and a revised link from the LAR to a new roundabout on the A684.
  • Alt. 3 A further option of a revised link from the LAR to a new larger roundabout on the A684 with direct access to the Motel from the A684 Roundabout.
  • Alt 4 This alternative moves the roundabout on the LAR further north and requires a new bridge under the proposed motorway, south of the existing A684 bridge.
  • Alt 5 This alternative moves the proposed Leeming Junction approx. 400metres south of the A684.
OA 10.  Local Access Road between Leeming and Catterick

This alternative provides for a local access route to the west of the proposed motorway from the proposed Leeming junction northwards. To the north of this link an overbridge crossing of the proposed motorway would be provided linking to the proposed realigned Low Street (close to its existing junction with the A1).

OA 11.  NMU Crossing Linking Low Street to Ghyll Lane

This alternative provides a NMU overbridge link across the proposed motorway to the south of Catterick between Low Street on the east and Ghyill Lane on the west.

OA 12.  Motorway Alignment on the Existing A1 in the Catterick Area

This alternative promotes a motorway alignment which follows the line of the existing A1 from the location of the existing Low Street junction through to the proposed Catterick Central junction. The local access road would cross the motorway adjacent to Low Street and run to the west of the motorway to its junction with the proposed Catterick Central junction. This alignment is similar to that promoted in the 1995 proposals.

OA 13.  Local Access Road using Existing Southbound Carriageway

This alternative provides a local access road between the proposed Catterick Central junction and Low Street which utilises the existing A1 southbound carriageway over the majority of its length.

OA 14.  Realignment of Tunstall Road

The alternative provides a route from the proposed motorway crossing (linking Catterick Lane and Tunstall Road) to the existing Tunstall Road. This alternative utilises part of the existing link between Catterick Lane and Tunstall Road.

OA 15.  NMU Overbridge Crossing of the Motorway at Manor House

This alternative provides an overbridge crossing of the proposed motorway as a continuation of the link east/west alignment of the existing Manor House overbridge.

OA 16.  Pallet Hill Link

This alternative provides a new length of highway from the eastern roundabout of the proposed Catterick Central junction in an easterly direction. It passes through the Pallet Hill quarry area before forming a junction with the A6136, to the south of Catterick racecourse.

OA 17.  Local Access Road West of Brompton

This alternative provides a new highway route to the west of Brompton on Swale. The route aligns from its southern limit at the A6136 in a north westerly direction, crosses over the River Swale and its flood plain on a new a bridge structure before linking back to the line of the proposed motorway, where it forms a junction with the local access road at location of the existing Catterick north junction.

OA 18.  Provision of Underpass Former Richmond Rail Line

This alternative provides for a underpass of the proposed motorway on the line of the former Richmond railway branch line, to the north of Brompton on Swale.

OA 19.  Catterick North Junction

This alternative provides a full movements junction arrangement to the proposed motorway at the location of the existing Catterick north junction with the A1.

OA 20.  Scurragh Lane NMU Overbridge Crossing - Alt 1

This alternative provides an NMU overbridge link at the location of the existing Scurragh Lane/Scurragh House Lane junctions with the A1. The link starts on the east at Scurragh House Lane and passes over the proposed motorway before decending to existing ground level between the proposed motorway and the local access road adjacent to Scurragh Lane. With this option the proposed motorway moves in an easterly direction.

OA 21.  Scurragh Lane NMU Overbridge Crossing - Alt 2

This alternative provides an NMU overbridge link at the location of the existing Scurragh Lane/Scurragh House Lane junctions with the A1. The link starts on the east at Scurragh House Lane and passes over the proposed motorway before decending to existing ground level to the west of the local access road adjacent to Scurragh Lane.

OA 22. Scurragh Lane NMU Underpass

This alternative provides an NMU underpass link at the location of the existing Scurragh Lane/Scurragh House Lane junctions with the A1. The link starts on the east at Scurragh House Lane and passes under the proposed motorway before ascending to existing ground level to the west of the local access road adjacent to Scurragh Lane.

OA 23.  Barton to Scotch Corner - Alt 1

This alternative provides a continuous local access link on the west side of the proposed motorway between the A1 Scotch Corner to Barton junctions. This additional link uses the existing A1 northbound slip road, with a new northbound motorway slip road being included within the proposal. An accommodation overbridge with bridleway provision is provided close to Kneeton Hall farm.

OA 24.  Barton to Scotch Corner - Alt 2

This alternative provides a local access link starting on the west side of the proposed motorway at Scotch Corner then linking across the proposed motorway on an overbridge to connect to the existing highway network at Kneeton Lane on the east. This additional link uses the existing A1 northbound slip road, with a new northbound motorway slip road being included within the proposal. The alternative also includes for an access route to Kneeton Hall Farm.

OA 25.  Segregated Provision of Quarry Traffic and NMU Traffic at the Kneeton Hall Overbridge
