The Project
A scheme to reduce congestion at M11 Junction 8 and A120 Priory Wood Interchange began on Monday 4 September 2006. The work was completed by Friday 15 December 2006.
The £2.1 million works involved the widening of the southbound exit slip road at M11 Junction 8 to provide an additional lane for traffic turning left onto the A120 towards Thremhall Avenue and the widening of the eastbound exit slip road at Priory Wood Interchange to provide a segregated left turn lane towards Stansted Airport.
The scheme also included resurfacing work and replacement of the lighting columns and safety barrier on the A120 Thremhall Avenue and Priory Wood Interchange, which was at the end of its working life.
The resurfacing work, together with the renewal of the road lighting and central reserve barriers, will improve safety and provide a quieter road surface. Improving the access for airport traffic at these junctions will help people travelling to the airport and will relieve congestion for drivers using the A120 trunk road.
The works were planned to be carried out in the shortest practicable time and designed to keep disruption to a minimum.
