The Project
The Highways Agency has successfully completed two weeks worth of overnight closures on the A34 between the 18th and 30th September 2006, delivering a concentrated programme of essential maintenance and resurfacing work.
The programme of works included full closures of the northbound and southbound carriageway respectively, to undertake a wide variety of tasks that will benefit the road user.
Through concentrating a wide programme of works that would have required approximately 50 nights worth of single lane closures, the Highways Agency was able to complete the same amount of work in two separate weeks.
The advantage of having the road closed created a cost saving, as more work was able to be completed in less time, reducing the likelihood of further closures in the near future.
The work comprised of the following tasks to benefit the public:
- Sign Cleaning
- Vegetation Clearance
- Resurfacing
- Drainage Repairs
- Road Markings
- Litter Collecting
- Bridge Inspections
- Safety Inspections
