Project
A new traffic lights system has been installed at the roundabout at Junction 19 of the M6. The system involves ‘intelligent’ traffic lights which work by monitoring the traffic flow and changing the sequence of the lights to allow for the best traffic flow through the junction. As well as reducing delays for travellers in the area, this will also improve safety.
The works were carried out at the same time as the Road Renewals scheme at Tabley (please follow the link in the top right hand corner of the page), between November 2006 and March 2007.
The new 'intelligent' traffic lights have now been installed, and are fully operational.

A556 improvements
We have carried out a series of improvements on the A556 and connecting roads between October 2006 and March 2007. Our aims of reducing congestion, improving safety and making journey times more reliable are particularly important for this route that carries over 50,000 vehicles per day, and serves as the primary link between the M6 and M56.
These improvements were procured via the Construction Management Framework. Find out more about this type of procurement.
The improvements are made up of six different schemes at various points along the A556, please use the links at the top right hand side of this page for information on the other schemes.
