Project
We plan to install CCTV along the route to help manage the traffic, as well as monitor and manage any incidents along the route.
Cameras will be provided at Mere Crossroads junction (A556/A50) and at the Bucklow Hill junction and will be in place no later than March 2007.
A566 Improvements
Between January and March 2007 we will be carrying out a series of improvements on the A556 and connecting roads.
Our aims of reducing congestion, improving safety and making journey times more reliable are particularly important for this route, which carries over 50,000 vehicles per day and serves as the primary link between the M6 and M56.
These improvements were procured via the Construction Management Framework. Find out more about this type of procurement.
The improvements are made up of six different schemes at various points along the A556, please use the links at the top right hand side of this page for information on the other schemes.
Traffic management
The CCTV works are to be constructed as part of the Bucklow Hill junction improvements and therefore the same traffic management will apply. The majority of the work will be carried out at night, between 9pm and 5am, when temporary traffic signalswill be used to control traffic through the junction. The work will also require several night time closures and two weekend full closures.
To ensure all users of this route are kept informed, there will be further press releases, radio adverts and leaflets at suitable times. For further information on the Bucklow Hill scheme, please use the links at the top right hand side of this page. In the meantime, please see this page for updates or sign up to receive email alerts for every time we publish new information.
