Project
The Highways Agency are undertaking essential road maintenance works eastbound on the M4 between J14 - 15. A contraflow system was put into place on the 31st October 2006, and the works are programmed to finish on 22nd December 2006, weather permitting.
The scheme includes resurfacing to the three lanes of the eastbound carriageway of the M4, near Membury service station, and renewing the road markings and studs.
Once complete, the scheme will improve the surface condition of the lanes, resulting in a smoother and quieter ride. The work will also extend the life of the pavement and its foundation, providing a durable and reliable road surface for the future.
Traffic Management
The works will be undertaken six days a week (Mon-Sat), 24 hours a day. A contraflow system will be in place during this period which may be reduced to a single lane in each direction at night as works dictate.
Access to Membury service station will be maintained throughout the scheme. However, should there be any closures, further information will be available at the time.
To ensure safety of site staff and of roadusers driving through narrow lanes within the contraflow system, the speed of 70mph has been reduced to 40mph. This speeding restriction will be enforced with speed cameras throughout the contraflow at all times.
A free vehicle recovery service is in operation throughout the length of the scheme, making use of the CCTV to assist motorists and to minimise disruption due to breakdowns. In the event of a break down, motorists are advised to stay in their vehicles and await recovery.
