Scheme Complete
Work to install new traffic signals that work under MOVA control was completed the week commencing 12 March 2007.
Previously, the traffic lights operated on a fixed timing sequence. The red and green periods were inflexible and did not vary to help you move through the interchange more effectively during busy periods. Lengthy queuing occurs, particularly on the A12 northbound approach to the interchange.
We have upgraded the fixed timing sequence in the signal controller to operate under a system called MOVA. MOVA means Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation.
Quite simply this means that by introducing queue detection technology into the road surface that is linked to the signal controller, the red and green periods on the lights will now automatically be adjusted to clear queuing traffic more effectively.
We have also resurfaced the circulatory carriageway and some of the slip roads and refreshed all the road markings. High friction surfacing has also been laid on the approaches to the signals.
