Bridge Demolition

Bridge Demolition

Demolition of the redundant bridges on the M1 between junctions 6A-10 required a complete closure of the motorway in both directions.

The concrete bridges are broken up into smaller more manageable pieces using specialist concrete breakers mounted on tracked vehicles. The cutting jaws look like crabs claws and can cut through reinforced concrete easily.

The broken up sections of bridge deck are then taken to the site recycling plant, turned into hardcore and reused elsewhere on the scheme.

We have now successfully completed all the bridge demolitions required for the scheme.

We thank you for your patience whilst we carried out this work and apologise for any inconvenience this may caused.
