Gonerby Moor Junction Improvement

Why is the improvement needed?

Gonerby Moor roundabout has a poor accident record with 39 personal injury accidents occurring over the past 5 years. This figure continues to grow with recent accidents not included within this figure. Additionally, the junction suffers frequently from congestion and lengthy delays during peak hours.

What will the improvements consist of?

We will build a new dual carriageway to the west of the existing roundabout. We will build a new roundabout linked to the existing roundabout by a new overbridge forming a dumbbell layout.

Traffic travelling both north and south along the new A1 carriageway will use the new slip roads to access Gonerby Lane, B1174 Great North Road and the adjacent developments.

Local traffic will cross the new A1 carriageway via the new slip roads and new overbridge.
