The Project
Works will take place at A38/A61 Watchorn Island, Alfreton, Derbyshire. Work will also take place on the A38 between Watchorn Island and the rail bridge approximatley 2.5km to the east.
The work will commence every night between the hours of 9 pm and 6 am starting on Monday, 15 January 2007 to Monday, 12 February 2007.
Works will include:
- new lining to reduce from two lanes to one, the sliproad taking traffic from the Watchorn Island on to the Northbound (Eastbound) A38;
- new edge lining on the nearside and offside of both carriageways, between Watchorn Island and the rail bridge 2.5km to the east.
There have been a number of accidents associated with traffic on the two lane sliproad trying to join the main A38; there have also been a number of accidents on the main A38 due to loss of control where there are no edge lines. This is currently the only section of the A38 without edge lines.
The works will affect traffic on the A38 in both directions.
Traffic Management
There will be lane closures and full closure of the A38 between Watchorn Island and the M1 at Junction 28.
Diversion routes will be via the A61 and B6019 through Alfreton.
A map of the diversion route is available in the Contact Information and Map page.
