How We Manage Our Roads

In this section you can find out more about how we manage and maintain these roads and plan for the future

The Project Control Framework

On 1st April 2008 we launched the Project Control Framework. The Framework sets out how we, together with the Department for Transport, manage and deliver major improvement projects.

Traffic Management

We continue to work hard to keep traffic running smoothly during the work. We have fortnightly traffic management meetings with Surrey and Hampshire County Councils as well as Surrey and Hampshire police to review the operation of the current traffic management and plan the next phases.

During the weekdays we will always allow traffic on the A3 to flow in both directions throughout the construction period.

You can find details of the latest traffic management layout from our newsletters.  When we have significant changes traffic management we publicise those changes in newsletters and on local radio.

We have now shortened the length of A3 under traffic management at the north end of the scheme.  This layout will remain until the project is complete.  Northbound traffic between the old end of the single carriageway and the site offices will use the Boundless Thursley link while southbound traffic uses the northbound carriageway and a temporary link to the existing A3.  For safety reasons there is a 40mph speed limit enforced by safety cameras.

From 20 April 2009 we will close Boundless Road for about 3 months to construct the new Boundless Road.  The closure is necessary as there is a large amount of earthworks to be constucted on or adjacent to the south eastern end of the new underpass and then the new road surface constructed.  For a plan of the work proposed see Newsletter No 12.  Acess to properties in Boundless Road will be via the A286 and Park Lane.

At Hazel Grove there is now no access to High Pitfold.  A residents only access point is being installed which will is planned to be operational after 20 April.  Acess is restriced by a moveable bollard which will be maintained by a local management company for the benefit of residents in Hazel Grove and immediate locality.  The company has been in touch with residents about the system. This arrangement was agreed at the Public Inquiry in 2004.

Hammer Lane diversion is now operational and on 20 April there will be a major change to the traffic management at the south end of the scheme.  Traffic on the dual carriageway will be placed in contraflow on the existing northbound carriageway near the new Canadian Memorial Underpass to Hammer Lane.  This will enable us to construct the entire new southbound carriageway between Hazel Grove and the south end of the scheme near the derelict Spaniard Inn.  The Knockhundred Lane junction with the A3 will be closed until December 2010 when all the new dual carriageway south of Hazel Grove will be fully opened to traffic.
