Traffic Management

We continue to work hard to keep traffic running smoothly during the work. We have fortnightly traffic management meetings with Surrey and Hampshire County Councils as well as Surrey and Hampshire police to review the operation of the current traffic management and plan the next phases.

During the day we will always allow traffic on the A3 to flow in both directions throughout the construction period.

You can find details of the latest traffic management layout from our newsletters.  When we have significant changes traffic management we publicise those changes in newsletters and on local radio.

There are three main phases for the traffic management at that the north end:At the north end we are now in the second phase of the traffic management with the A3 traffic diverted onto part of the Boundless-Thursley Link Road, temporarily widened from a single track road with passing places to a road with one lane in each direction.  This is so we can construct the Hindhead Hill and Greensand Way underpasses in the most efficient way.

We expect to complete the underpasses and re-instating the A3 by May 2008 after which we will switch traffic back onto the A3 with traffic management for single lane running past the site office access, and a small section of contraflow just before the start of the existing single carriageway at Boundless Road.

The final phase occurs shortly before the scheme opens to allow us to tie in the new northbound carriageway.

For safety reasons there is a 40mph speed limit which is enforced by safety cameras.

At the south end the present phase with contraflow working will last until July 2008 while we construct the Canadian Memorial Underpass.  Traffic runs in contraflow on the southbound carriageway with a 50mph speed limit for safety reasons.  The Hammer Lane diversion is now in place and has a 40mph speed limit for safety reasons until we complete the underpass later in the year .   Then  we will remove most of the traffic management until mid 2009 when we construct the new road layout from the Spaniard to Hazel Grove.  .

During these phases it will be necessary to have either single lane running or contraflow on the dual carriageway. This is necessary for safety reasons to protect open excavations, and allow sufficient working space to proceed in an efficient manner, across one carriageway at a time. For safety reasons there are speed limits enforced with safety cameras.
