The Project
The Highways Agency are undertaking essential road and bridge maintenance works westbound on the M4 between J14-15. The works started on 22nd October 2007, and are programmed to be completed by 14th March 2008, weather permitting.
This scheme continues from Baydon Phase 1, completed in December 2006 and Baydon Phase 2 completed in March 2007 and includes resurfacing of the westbound carriageway and upgrading and strengthening the piers of the Membury Footbridge and Breach Copse, Inholmes and Bayfield accommodation bridges.
The works will ensure continued serviceability of the westbound carriageway whilst enhancing the safety standards at the bridges increasing their strength to reduce the severity of a vehicle impact. Once complete, the scheme will improve the surface condition of the lanes, resulting in a smoother and quieter ride.
The works will be undertaken 5 days a week, with a combination of daytime and night time working. Three lanes will be open in each direction during daytime hours. This may be reduced to a single lane in each direction at night as works dictate.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this work may cause and hope that this information is helpful. Should you require any further details, please call the 24-hour Highways Agency Information Line on 08451 50 40 30.
Update
From Sunday 17th February, weather permitting, the M4 J14-15 Baydon Maintenance works will be moving to narrow lane running on both the east and westbound carriageways. Both hardshoulders will be brought into use as running lanes.
Throughout this period a 50mph speed limit will be enforced by average speed cameras, to ensure safety for the road users and workers.
Please note that this information is not updated in real time. Please check Traffic England for the latest information and current traffic conditions.
