The Proposals and Benefits

The Proposals

The main elements of the proposals are:

  • The provision of a new two lane carriageway to form a dual carriageway. The new carriageway will be on the northern side of the existing road.
  • Improvement to existing junctions and where possible, the closure of minor side roads and property/field accesses.
  • Improved facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
  • Existing laybys will be closed and new ones provided.
  • The new carriageway will be surfaced with materials, which have low noise properties.
  • Balancing ponds to control surface water drainage will be provided opposite the Vintage Motel (on the site of the former bungalow), opposite the former Kirklands Garage and west of Warrener lane South, at Carkin Moor.
  • Planting and landscaping will help to mitigate the effect of the dualling on the local environment. The road will remain unlit.

The proposals will:

  • Allow slow moving vehicles to be overtaken safely.
  • Reduce the number of junctions and direct accesses to the trunk road. The remaining junctions will be improved.
  • Improve facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
