The Project

Drivers will benefit from nine new Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) which are being installed on a 30km stretch of the M11 between Junction 6 and Junction 9 (just south of Junction 7 Harlow, to half way between Junction 8 and Junction 9).

Work began on 29 January 2007 and is now in the commissioning phase which is expected to be completed by the end of July 2008.  During this time drivers are advised that there will be daytime hard shoulder closures only on the southbound carriageway.  The works included installation of CCTV masts, cable ducting and vehicle safety fencing.

The new cameras will feed real time traffic information to the Regional Traffic Control Centre at South Mimms. This will help keep the Highways Agency and the emergency services in the picture about road conditions and help them deal with incidents and congestion more quickly and efficiently.

The construction and supervision is being carried out by Carillion URS.
